Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
Steven was found loose on the streets and never claimed at the city shelter. The staff at the shelter asked us to meet him and his goofiness made us absolutely say Yes!
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 60-70 lbs
Health Condition:
Steven is healthy and ready for his forever home!
Physical Description:
Steven is a beautiful caramel colored boy. He's a nice medium sized boy, with an adorable over bite - that inspired his name. His big floppy ears are a fan favorite amongst volunteers!
Current Living Situation:
Steven currently lives at the shelter, where he has been a wonderful resident! He is quiet in his kennel and curls up on is bed while he waits for his turn out. When he's out, he loves to follow our volunteers around in the yard, go for a walk, or snuggle up next to you on the couch! He respects his space and keeps the bedding in his kennel tidy. He also has not shown to be reactive to the other dogs.
Personality:
Steven is such a sweet, goofy soul. He's happy, friendly, and ready to enjoy life being a dog and pleasing his person! He can be reserved in new situations, and has shown to be unsure of cars and things like stairs. His perfect person will be gentle and encouraging with him as he gains confidence in learning to be a dog again! He's such a happy go lucky guy and will thrive with someone who's ready to teach him the good life and the joys of being a spoiled dog!
Steven is overall a pretty chill fella! He's calm and laid back in his kennel while he waits for his turn out. Once he's out for his turn he enjoys walks and cuddles. He's got a sweet, slightly dopey and silly nature to his personality and is really eager to please!
Behavior with people:
Steven has been well behaved when meeting new people! He's outgoing and friendly and truly enjoys spending time with people. He remains calm and as soon as he knows you're there to love on him or play with him, he's ready to get his wiggle butt going and give kisses!
Behavior with children:
Unknown. Steven has not been around children while in our care. Due to his laid back nature and love for everyone, we believe he may be able to live in a home with older children.
Behavior with other dogs:
Unknown. Steven has not had interactions with other dogs while at the shelter, but while on an outing with a volunteer, he encountered other dogs on a leash at a close distance and seemed to be unbothered, or even aloof, to them. While we can not guarantee his behavior with other dogs, we do believe that he could live with a compatible female dog after proper introductions.
Behavior with other animals:
Unknow. Steven has briefly met a cat, and much like his behavior with the dogs he seemed to be unbothered. He noticed the cat but did not have a reaction. We have not seem him show signs of prey drive when there are small animals around the yard at the shelter. We of course can not guarantee this same behavior with all other animals, but it seems he may be able to cohabitate with them in his forever home.
Training:
Steven is still a young guy so he knows the basics! He is happy to sit (especially for a treat!). He has been well-behaved on a leash and does not pull. He also constantly looks back at his walker to check in and make sure they're "still there"! He does at times reach back and bite his leash. it's usually easily corrected and just a sign of his excitement to be out and about. Overall, Steven is VERY eager to please people. He LOVES to be told what a good boy he is, and is often looking for approval and encouragement in new situations. Steven LOVES to chew on a stick! Often on walks he stops to scoop up a delicious looking stick! Steven has been struggling to understand the doggie doors in his kennel, so he has accidents in his kennel. We believe he understands pottying outside, but is just struggling with the doors. Never the less, his adopter should be ready to be patient with him as he settles into his new routine.
Best Attribute:
Besides being a beautiful caramel color and a great medium sized boy, Steven's best trait is his sweet and goofy personality. He gives off the vibe "I'm just happy to be here!" which is so charming and always makes volunteers smile. You can tell he wants to please his people. He loves encouragement and would thrive with a person who is willing to help him gain confidence.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
