Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Kiff Chatterley was found abandoned and alone in a park. She was saved and brought into the city shelter where she soon joined the MPR program. She is learning about the good life while under our care.

Adoption Fee: $200
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Sex: Female
Age: 10+ mths
Weight: 25 lbs & Growing

Health Condition:

Kiff is a very healthy dog! When she was first found, her right eye needed a cherry eye repair. That surgery was performed and it is healing nicely and shouldn't cause any future problems.

Physical Description:

Kiff is a petite gal! She's about 25lbs currently and while she's still growing, she won't be a big dog. She's the perfect, medium sized girl with THE SOFTEST FUR in the world! Her golden brown eyes and chocolate brown coat are a strikingly beautiful combination. Kiff also has the most adorable underbite and often shows off her bottom teefs, especially when she's excited and gives her silly smile.

Current Living Situation:

Kiff is fostered in a home with one adult and three other pets: two smaller sized dogs (10 and 12 year old) and one cat (3 years old). She has access to a fenced in backyard, which she loves! Kiff is still quite young and foster mom is working with her on learning crate and potty training. She stays in her crate overnight and when home alone. Foster mom is also working with Kiff on her leash skills and taking her in public to help her socialization.

Personality:

Kiff is a total sweetheart and love bug. She’s a fan of cuddling on the couch and playing in the backyard. Kiff is still a puppy and gets bursts of energy that bring out the zoomies and the occasional rambunctious puppy behavior. Fortunately, she is on the smaller side and is about a medium energy lady. She is a quick learner and is working on some basic commands. She has great recall and is food motivated. If she’s sufficiently tired out, Kiff sleeps the whole night through, quietly in her kennel. Kiff loves to play with other dogs and may do well with a compatible, playful dog that will be her playmate and snuggle buddy.

Kiff currently lives with two, smaller, senior dogs who she wishes would play with her more. She listens to them if they correct her and indicate that they’re done playing. She does well with the cat she lives with. She takes correction well both from the cat and her foster mom if she’s showing too much interest in the cat.

Kiff is always a happy little pup and nothing seems to get her down! She’s in her chewing phase of her puppyhood, but does well when redirected to chew on appropriate toys. The cutest thing that Kiff does is smile with her whole face when she’s excited to see you. She’s the cutest little clown!

Behavior with people:

Kiff can sometimes be a little on the reserved side when she meets new people, but she warms up very quickly! She loves people and attention, and likes to tag along with her foster mom wherever she goes.

Behavior with children:

Kiff has not been around any children in her foster home. Because she has her moments of rambunctious puppyhood, a home with small children is not recommended for her. She may do well with older children in her forever home.

Behavior with other dogs:

Kiff has been getting along with the other dogs in her foster home. She is learning how to take social cues and is doing well respecting the older foster siblings who sometimes don't want to play. with slow and proper introductions, it is possible that Kiff could live with a compatible male dog who matches her energy level and playfulness.

Behavior with other animals:

Kiff currently lives with a cat. She's interested in the cat and occasionally would like to play with her, but she takes correction well and will leave the cat alone if given a stern "no" from foster mom. She also respects cues from the cat and backs off from play when the cat signals.

Kiff has chased a few birds and squirrels outside in the yard, but doesn't seem overly interested in them. It does not seem that she has much of a prey drive.

Training:

Kiff is working on housebreaking, and she's making big progress! She has the occasional accident in the house but she's getting better and better each day!

Kiff is benefitting from crate training. She is still a puppy and exhibits typical puppy behavior, so the crate training helps to both deter inappropriate behavior and keep Kiff safe! She does best in the kennel when she is very tired or when she has a treat to keep her attention occupied. She eats her meals in the crate and sleeps there overnight. It is quickly becoming a safe and comforting space for her!

So far Kiff knows the commands "sit", "stay" and "come". Her foster mom is working on some new commands with her because she is a very smart and trainable girl! She loves training treats and positive reinforcement.

Best Attribute:

Kiff's best attribute, besides her adorable face, is her silly and fun personality! She's a real cutie and is super curious. She likes to follow her people around because she wants to hang out with them and see what they're up to. She's ready to be your new best friend!
