From Brother Bear, Kenai is a young proto-Athabascan man living somewhere on the coast of ice age Alaska. He is the youngest of three brothers.

Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures

Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.

We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.

We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.

Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.

Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.

Background Info:

Kenai was brought into the city shelter with another dog. Both dogs showed signs of neglect such as being underweight, coarse coats, and fly strike marks on their ears that indicate they had been kept outside. After showing such great disposition, a plea was made to MPR to bring Kenai into MPR's program and after meeting him there was no way we could say no.

Adoption Fee: $ 150
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 50-60 lbs

Health Condition:

Being in MPR's care now, Kenai is working on getting to healthy weight and we are getting the fly strikes on his ears all healed up. He is also currently recovering from a case of kennel cough. It is clear that he was not properly cared for before but those days are behind him and he looks forward to living the life of luxury with his future forever family.

Physical Description:

Kenai is a shorter sized, squatty body Pitty almost like a pocket Pit Bull. This handsome young man has the classic heart shaped big Pit Bull head with gorgeous and unique, almost golden colored eyes. His coat is best described as blue/gray but in certain lights can almost seem chocolate. He is truly one of a kind! Our volunteers rave about how handsome he is and how they could stare into his eyes for days on end!

Current Living Situation:

Kenai currently resides in at the MPR shelter and likes to lounge in his bunk with his paws hanging out watching your every move as you walk by, hoping it is his turn to give lots of love. He has settled in nicely and quickly became a volunteer favorite to be around as he just melts into your lap looking for snuggles! At times it can take a moment to coax him out of his kennel but once you do he is a ball of energy looking for fun and love!

Personality:

This Roly-Poly shaped hunk is a total lover and is so happy to be with his humans. While slightly reserved at first, once he knows you are a friend he gets excited and his tail starts wagging as fast as it can. He is still learning that humans are from now on going to be good to him so he takes a minute to warm up to you but once he does he will never leave your side and will keep you smiling from ear to ear. While being affectionate he does not get over excited and is always down to Netflix and chill as long as it means he gets belly rubs during commercial breaks.

Behavior with people:

Once acquainted, Kenai will be your forever Valentine. One of his go-to moves is to drape himself across your lap and stare into your eyes as you give him endless butt scratches and belly rubs. Our volunteers all look forward to #kenaitime during their shifts and have reported nothing but glowing reports about this total sweetheart. He is like a good salesman, all he needs is to get you in the room with him and he will have you swooning over him and telling all your friends you found the best dog ever.

Behavior with children:

While Kenai is still learning to trust humans it is recommended that he goes to a home with teenagers who have adult supervision and leadership. Small children sometimes like to rush dogs to give them hugs and Kenai is not ready for that yet. He is like a big baby himself  and doesn't want a small child stealing all the attention from him anyway.

Behavior with other dogs:

Kenai came into the city pound with another female. We believe with proper leadership and breed knowledge, he could live with a compatible female.

Behavior with other animals:

We are still learning about how Kenai acts around other animals and will update as we know more.

Training:

Our MPR volunteers are actively working with Kenai on basic commands. This snuggle addict is having to learn that sit doesn't always mean sit on your lap. With his eagerness to please his humans, we believe he will be a quick learner.

Best Attribute:

As it is probably no surprise, Kenai's warm soul and admiration for his humans is what has our volunteers obsessing over him daily. This dog will be such a good friend and companion to whoever decides to open their home to this walking weighted blanket. If you are looking for a dog that sits in the corner while you go about your day then he is not for you. BUT if you are looking for a dog that will always be so so happy to see you and give you endless love and affection (and happens to be gorgeous) then Kenai is your man.

Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
