Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
This sweet girl was found at large and brought into the city shelter. She was balding all over and had a unique glide to one of her back legs. X-rays showed what looks to be an old already healed without medical attention injury. Not one of her ailments has stolen her lust for life and happiness so we of course wanted to bring her into our program so she can have the life she fully deserves!
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Female
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 65-80 lbs
Health Condition:
Foxtrot came in emaciated with bald spots all over her body. It was apparent she was infested with Demodex mange. Luckily for her it is easily treated with a certain flea medication and she is already growing that beautiful chocolate coat back in. She also came into the city shelter with a slight slide in her gait. After x-rays it was found to be a previous injury that had already healed on its own. She was cleared of any pain and given the go ahead for us to bring her into our program.
Physical Description:
Foxtrot is a tall dog, but not bulky as she has a lean build with long legs that glide across the floor. Her elegant head is brightened up with those kind, loving yellow eyes that mask her tiny cropped ears. She has a rich chocolate coat that is growing in nicely.
Current Living Situation:
Sweet Foxy is currently residing at our shelter but is suffering from what seems to be confinement anxiety. When inside her large indoor/outdoor kennel the noise of the shelter has her trying to get out at her own expense. However, when she is on her rotation in the playroom and yard she is relaxed and even self entertains with a chew toy. We believe that with the proper home she could successfully live a happy life. Foxy just needs someone with patience to adjust to what will keep her successful. She recently had a dog day out at a volunteers home and was absolutely calm, peaceful and loving. She slept in the sunshine in the yard and blissfully on the floor amongst toys. She was at peace.
Personality:
Sweet, loving and quick to bond. Foxtrot has an eager to please personality. She is suffering at the shelter though from all the separation of time.
Behavior with people:
Foxy wants to love her people and just doesn't understand why she can't at all time. She is very gentle but does love to hug her humans and with her long body it is basically a full body hug :) In the shelter she seems to not understand why she doesn't get to hug everyone at all times but unfortunately other dogs need time out also.
Behavior with children:
We recently got to see Foxy at a volunteers home with her young preteen daughter. The volunteers daughter has been raised around fosters and is very respectful of them. She also is very good at training them and Foxy loved their lesson times! We believe Foxtrot could live with dog respectful older children.
Behavior with other dogs:
We believe Foxy could live with a compatible male after slow introductions. We also think it might help her with the confinement/separation anxiety, but is not a deal breaker if the house doesn't have a pet.
Behavior with other animals:
We have no knowledge of Foxtrot with other animals.
Training:
She may be too smart lol! Foxy would Greatly benefit from a home that really exercises her brain just as much as her physical energy. We believe she could learn a multitude of commands and tricks.
Best Attribute:
Love. She is pure love. Whoever gets to be this sweet angels best friend will only know love.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
