Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
Before joining MPR, Carmelita was surrendered to the city shelter at no fault of her own.
Adoption Fee: $200
Breed: American Bully
Sex: Female
Age: 2-4
Weight: 35-45 pounds
Health Condition:
Carmelita is healthy and ready for adoption!
Physical Description:
Carmelita is has a beautiful grey, white, and brown tri-color coat. She is perfectly pocket-pittie sized and full of life!
Current Living Situation:
Carmelita is fostered in a home with two adults and an older male American Bully. There is a fenced in yard with a four foot chain link fence and six foot wood fence on one side, which she respects.
She is doing well with crate training, and is given the freedom to be loose in the house at night and while left home alone. Carmelita and her furry foster brother sleep in the living room at night that is fully equipped with dog beds and plenty of blankets to snuggle up with!
Personality:
Carmelita is full of energy, life and spirit! She is a very happy and outgoing dog. Foster mom describes her as a "gymnast stuck in a dog's body." She is very playful and loves playing around with her furry foster brother - she keeps him young! They especially love to play with their tug rope. She gets bursts of energy and does the cutest zoomies but also loves to cuddle up with her humans on the couch. She has a well-balanced personality!
Carmelita is incredibly responsive and eager to please. Foster mom sometimes reminds Carmelita of manners and boundaries, but she responds very well to the direction and is treat motivated. She loves to sit on your lap! Her favorite thing is staying warm. She loves to lounge by the fire place!!
Behavior with people:
Carmelita has never met a stranger! She outgoing and friendly with everyone she meets. She can get overly exciting when meeting new people, but foster mom is working with her to keep all four paws on the floor when greeting.
Behavior with children:
There are no children that live in the home, but has met a number of kids that visit the home. She has been outgoing and friendly with the children as well. Because she gets very excited and is strong, a home with small children may not be the best fit for her.
Behavior with other dogs:
Carmelita has been getting along great with the male dog in her foster home! She could live in a home with a compatible male dog after proper introductions. She is high energy and would do best with a dog that enjoys playing with others!
Behavior with other animals:
Carmelita has shown signs of a strong prey drive. The prey drive does not seem to come from a place of aggression, but more intrigue and wanting to play! A home with small animals may not be ideal for Carmelita.
Training:
Carmelita is very eager to please and responds well to direction! Foster mom is working with her on perfecting sit, stay, wait, and other commands. Because she is still a somewhat young dog, she sometimes needs to be reminded of her manners. She will do great with strong leadership in the home. She is very smart and learns quickly!
Best Attribute:
Carmelita's love for people, adorable wiggles, and lively spirit are her best qualities. She brightens up any room and would make a fantastic companion in her forever home!
