Before applying for a dog, please take a moment to review our Adoption Information & Procedures
Some of the dogs in our program are adopted before we get to know them. Some stay longer but require several weeks to show their character. Some dogs receive additional evaluations and training by professionals if needed.
We work hard to provide as much information as possible, but the process is not perfect. Our goal is to give the dogs the best chance to stay in their home for the rest of their lives so we are genuine regarding what we know about them. For MPR, quality of our placements takes precedence over a quick turnaround.
We do our very best to update the dogs' bios as quickly as we can. In some cases, dogs are adopted before we are able to revise their listing.
Please do not contact MPR via email or messenger to inquire about a dog’s personality and/or temperament, compatibility with other pets, etc. The volunteers in charge of replying to general requests are not the same as those handling and evaluating the dogs. They will not be able to answer your questions.
Missouri Pit Bull Rescue makes no express or implied warranty, representation or promise to the age, health, breed, habits, disposition, behaviors, obedience, or safety of the dogs in our program. Our assessments are subjective and based on information we receive when selecting the dogs for our program, as well as observations and reports from our volunteers and caretakers. Adopters understand that no one can predict how a dog will act or react under all circumstances and situations.
Background Info:
Barnaby was taken into the local city shelter after being spotted digging through trash by a MPR volunteer. After going unclaimed, MPR was asked to bring him into our program and of course we said yes!
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 8+ mths
Weight: Growing
Health Condition:
Despite being found as a stray that had a coarse and dirty coat that indicated he had been on his own for some time, Barnaby is in healthy, ready to be adopted shape! Or as he says "ready to go now"
Physical Description:
While young, Barnaby is still growing but will likely be medium build once full grown. He has a gorgeous, exotic dark brindle coat that will make him stand out to anyone lucky enough to set eyes on this handsome gent. To go along with his unique coat, Barnaby has a "lucky white" strip down his chest which he believes is a target point for belly rubs. To finish out this hunk's magical build, he has the prettiest almost golden colored eyes that are sure to capture your heart.
Current Living Situation:
Barnaby is currently residing at the MPR shelter and has learned to use his doggy door when it is time to use the bathroom.
Personality:
Being young and new to the program Barnaby was initially timid when meeting the volunteers but seems to open up more and more each day. He is like a wind up toy that is just waiting to meet you, and once it is his turn to be let out he is so happy to be around his humans. Barnaby has been the epitome of a "Velcro dog" and will stay so close to you that sometimes you won't know where he is, soon to find out that he is directly on your heels waiting for instruction. This boy loves to always be by your side! This young boy has such a loving and happy soul that just wants to be loved in return and shown what the good life has to offer.
Behavior with people:
Barnaby has shown that he has about a 20 second human inspection period with humans. Being young, he is still learning how the world works and can be a bit shy but is very quick to ditch that and become your best friend. He gets very excited and wants to be close to you and shows his affection in kisses and initimate snuggles. Once acquainted, Barnaby will act like you have known each other his entire short life, and expects love given through belly scratches in return. His love languages are physical touch, physical touch, a little more physical through (slobbery kisses).
Behavior with children:
We believe Barnaby could live with teenagers in a breed knowledgeable home. While he is still young, he can get overly excited at times and that can a lot for small children to handle at times.
Behavior with other dogs:
We believe that Barnaby could live with a compatible female with slow, proper introductions.
Behavior with other animals:
While we are still learning about Barnaby, we have not seen him interact with other animals but believe he could live with them as long as the proper introductions were taken. We will update as we know more.
Training:
Barnaby came to MPR unsure of the world and seemed to have no prior training but has shown us that he is intelligent and such a quick learner! He has quickly gained confidence and has learned the basic commands such as 'sit' 'down' and 'touch'. Barnaby has also shown to be very easy on the leash, staying by your side, not pulling which is always a huge plus!
Best Attribute:
For Barnaby to know you is for Barnaby to love you. This dog has such a lovers heart and so eager to please his humans. He is the type of dog that will stay by your side through the good and especially the bad days. If love were a currency, Barnaby would be a millionaire with plenty to go around. Come meet your future best friend today.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
