Pappu
Of Bengali and Hindu origin. Meaning: An innocent and sweet natured boy.
Background Info:
Pappu was brought in as a stray - We do not have a background history on him. He earned the name Pappu due to his gentleness and timidity.
Health Condition:
Healthy and ready for adoption.
Physical Description:
Pappu is mostly white with red spots. He looks like a Pointer/Pit bull mix in person. He's medium size and has a soft and timid expression.
Current Living Situation:
Fostered in a home with two adults and two teenager kids, ages 11 and 14. We also have two rescued adult pit bulls in our home. Brandi is a female approximately 13-14 years old, and Major is a male approximately 4 years old.
There is a 4' wooden fence in the yard, which he respects.
Pappu is crated at night or when we leave the house. He does wonderful going into his crate with a treat and does not whine or bark while in his crate.
Personality:
Pappu is very sweet and loving. He is insecure about his surroundings, but learning very quickly and adapting in our foster home. He is hesitant with new experiences in an new environment - but learns and adjusts fast. For example, the first day we had to help him down the stairs to go outside. He did not want to go. The next day he is already going down by himself and understands. He will need his people to help build his confidence and reinforce good behaviors. Not that he has bad behaviors- he is just hesitant.
Because of his shyness, he needs a home that will give him the time to build his confidence. He will need patience to come out of his shell, but I can tell he's a wonderful dog that will have lots of love to give. He does better in calm environments.
Behavior with people:
Pappu is affraid of strangers, slow to warm up to new people and quite timid. However, he is very loving once he trusts you and a love bug who loves to snuggle. We can sense he's looking for reassurance. As such, we are giving him the space he needs to feel comfortable and not overwhelm him.
Behavior with children:
He has done wonderful with my two boys and already met several of their friends. He is timid, but warms up. He definitely prefers calm, however. This is particularly true while he's gaining our trust. I have asked my boys to be considerate of his personality and give him the space he needs to trust our family.
Behavior with other dogs:
I do not know how he is with other dogs yet. I will be doing a slow introduction, particularly based on his insecurities. I do not want to overwhelm Pappu.
Behavior with other animals:
Unknown
Training:
Pappu already knows sit, and is doing good with housetraining. He has not had any accidents in the house or in his crate either- which is a great sign. We will continue to work on everything with him. He is eager to please and very sweet.
