Marigold
The marigold flower, also called the “herb of the sun”, represents passion and creativity. Marigolds symbolize strong passion, being associated with the legendary brave and courageous lion.
Marigold was surrendered to the city pound because her family didn't have enough time for her. Her remarkable beauty and solid temperament captured the attention of the staff, who immediately sent a plea to MPR on her behalf.

Physical Description:
BIG gorgeous girl! Very impressive looking, big-boned and muscular. A head-turner!
Living Situation:
Before losing her home, Marigold live with a single mom and 3 children, as well as a male dog who was her sibling. She was kept mostly outside.
Marigold then spent a few months in a foster home with a single woman and no other pets. She loved being outside on nice weather and sunbathing on the porch. She eventually had to come back to the shelter because she needs a large fenced yard with a privacy fence.
We learned while she was in foster care that Marigold doesn't need to be crated at night or when home alone. She is not destructive. She actually doesn't like to be in a crate. She is mostly housebroken - occasionally/rarely having an accident inside if she does not have enough time in the yard.
While she loves the outdoors, she can be reactive at the sight of small animals (cats, dogs, squirrels, etc). hence why we prefer a home with a privacy fence.
Personality:
Marigold is confident, upbeat and self-assured. Her level of energy is medium. She is overall an easy-going dog with a beautiful heart.
Marigold is not pushy about her affection. She is rather independent but protective. She likes to follow her loved-ones around to make sure they are ok.
Marigold he is getting used to toys and to enjoy playtime.
Maggie's perfect owner should have good leadership skills. She needs guidance and wants to please but she can also be a little stubborn at times and very strong.
Behavior with people:
Marigold likes meeting new people when introduced properly! She sometimes jumps up and lingers a little longer than some guests appreciate.
While friendly with people at home, Marigold can be reactive on-leash when walking by strangers that intimidate her. She is protective and wants to make sure people know not to mess with her loved-ones. She's quite strong and will require very responsible ownership.
Behavior with children:
Marigold used to live with 3 kids. A seventeen year old girl, an eleven year old girl and a seven year old girl. She is said to have been good and at ease with the children but we dont think she actually spent a lot of time with them as she was mostly an outside dog. There are currently no children in her foster environment. We believe she would be fine with older kids but she might be a little too big and strong for small children. Due to her protective personality, she needs a home with responsible owners that will not put her in situations unsuited for her strong personality.
Behavior with other dogs:
Marigold lived with one other dog in her previous home. He was her brother so they grew up together and got along well. She was never introduced to other dogs besides him. When she saw other dogs on her walk she would bark but the owner never let her meet them.
Since in our program, Marigold has not been with other dogs. She was briefly introduced to other dogs while at the city pound with guarded results. She was stiff and dominant and seemed unwilling or uninterested to make doggy-friends. A home as an only pet is prefered. If a potential owner has a lot of breed knowledge and can assure thorough introductions under our guidelines, we might consider placing her in a home with a compatible male.
Behavior with other animals:
High prey drive. NO CATS!
Training:
Marigold knows most commands. Sit/stay are perfect. Working on lay down. Her foster mom taught her to ring a string of bells on the door to go outside. Of course, now she rings them all day because she loves to be outside, lol!
Marigold is very strong on leash and not always perfectly behaved but not a lost cause. A little more training in that aspect would go a long way.
Best Attribute:
Marigold is as smart as she is beautiful! Loyal, protective and easy-going.
