Magnolia
People have loved magnolias for thousands of years. Because of its resistance, magnolia flowers tend to live for many years. This is why one of the symbols that magnolias represents is endurance. Magnolias are not delicate flowers, even though they may seem like they are.
Background Info:
Magnolia was found as a stray and never claimed. We have no info regarding her previous life and upbringing. We suspect she wasn't a house pet but we don't know for sure. What we do know is that this dog's love for people is remarkable and he happy spirit very endearing.
Adoption Fee: $ 200
Breed: Ambull/Pit mix
Sex: Female
Age: 1-3 yo
Weight: 55-65 lbs
Health Condition:
Magnolia is healthy and ready for adoption.
Physical Description:
Mostly white with some patches and black dots. Maggie is medium size - athletic and very well proportioned. She has the prettiest face with a soft expression and darling eyes.
Current Living Situation:
Maggie is currently living-it up at MPR shelter. Though we can't tell be sure, we believe she was an unloved and neglected outside dog before. Being welcomed inside seemed new to her when she arrived and she had to get used to her new surroundings. She loves being at the shelter though, that is pretty obvious. She is does well in her kennel and doesn't cause any problems. She is non reactive to the dogs next to her.
Personality:
Docile and loving when inside, but playful and occasionally a little ornery when outside. There seems to be two sides to Magnolia, which adds to her charm. She is very affectionate and cuddly, but her happy and playful spirit should not be underestimated.
Behavior with people:
She loves people, although she can be a little unsure at times. She warms up super fast though and can even be a little clingy with her need for attention. WE are working on personal space. Mag is learning that she will never be deprived of love again and she seems reassured by the good care she is receiving with us. That said, she is very determined in being a lap-dog and doesn't give up easily when she decides that should should pay her attention instead of being busy with other things. Don't apply for Magnolia if you are looking for an independent dog. If you like snuggles and cuddles though, she's your gal!
Behavior with children:
Unknown. While she's a real sweetheart and doesn't seem to have any malice what's so ever, she might not have had a chance to learn proper social manners with little ones. She can be a little mouthy and jumpy when excited. She is a work in progress and very receptive to learning, but as of now, we believe she would do better in a home with adults only, or at least older kids that are mature enough to provide a dog with leadership, structure, and positive interactions.
Behavior with other dogs:
Unknown. At the shelter she seems eager to make friends with the dogs kenneled next to her but hasn't been formally introduced yet. We think she would do well in a home as the only pet so she gets all the attention to herself, but we wont rule out a home with a compatible male dog. She might enjoy having a 4-legged buddy.
Behavior with other animals:
Unknown.
Training:
Maggie is still very green but seems interested in learning more about life. She's receptive, but a little clueless about house manners at the moment. She did learn quickly that couches make comfortable cuddle stations, ha! Housebreaking is in progress, though she keeps her inside kennel clean. She will have accidents inside if she doesn't have enough time outside.
Mag was recently enrolled in obedience training and our volunteers had the best things to say about her. She is smart and enjoys training. She's learned a few commands and loves to demonstrate her smarts.
This sweetheart-of-a-dog has so much potential. While she might not have had a good life prior to her rescue, she was gifted with a very lovely disposition, a fun-loving personality, and an exquisite appearance.
Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
